Can a Live Wedding Illustrator Draw Everyone at My Wedding?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"Will every guest receive a portrait?"

The short answer is... it depends on your guest numbers and the package you choose.

As a live wedding illustrator, my priority isn't simply drawing as many people as possible. It's making sure every portrait feels personal while keeping the experience enjoyable for everyone throughout the day.

Every wedding is different

No two weddings are ever the same.

Some guests head straight over to my illustration table as soon as they arrive.

Others are busy chatting, enjoying drinks or taking photographs, and don't realise I'm there until much later.

That's one of the things I love most about weddings – every celebration has its own pace and personality.

How I work on the day

Throughout your wedding, I photograph guests as they pass my illustration table.

I then create each portrait digitally on my iPad before printing it on the spot.

Guests can collect their portrait during the celebration, which means watching the illustrations appear throughout the day becomes part of the entertainment itself.

One of my favourite moments is seeing guests spot their portrait for the first time. Some laugh, some stand there completely surprised for a few seconds, and others immediately call their family or friends over to show them.

Those reactions are honestly one of the best parts of my job.

What happens if not everyone is finished?

This is probably the biggest concern couples have before booking.

The good news is that unfinished portraits are never forgotten.

If there are still guests left at the end of the evening, I'll complete the remaining illustrations in my studio and carefully post them to you afterwards.

That way, nobody misses out simply because the dance floor became too busy!

Choosing the right package

The best way to ensure as many guests as possible receive a portrait is by choosing a package that matches your guest numbers.

As a guide:

  • 4 hours – ideal for up to 40 guests

  • 6 hours – ideal for up to 60 guests

  • 8 hours – ideal for up to 80 guests

If you have a larger guest list, don't worry. We can always discuss the best option for your wedding.

A few tips to help everything run smoothly

After illustrating over 20 weddings, here are a few things I've learnt:

  • Let your guests know I'll be there! A simple announcement from your host or DJ helps enormously.

  • Consider creating a VIP list if there are family members or friends you'd especially love to have illustrated.

  • Trust the process. Guests naturally discover the illustration table throughout the day.

My goal isn't simply to create a portrait.

I don't just draw people.

I spend time noticing the little things – a warm smile, the way two friends laugh together, a child holding their parent's hand, or the quiet confidence in someone's posture.

Those small details are what make every portrait feel personal.

I don't just want guests to recognise themselves. I want them to see themselves at their happiest.

When I finish an illustration, I always hope it feels like more than a keepsake.

I want it to be something I'd proudly frame on my own wall.

Because if I wouldn't display it in my own home, I don't think it's ready for yours.

If you're planning your wedding and wondering which live illustration package would be best for your guest numbers, I'd be delighted to help.

Feel free to get in touch, and we can chat about the perfect option for your day.
